Wickets were falling in Redditch from as early as 1848 when a cricket club was formed. It is thought that Victoria Cricket Club was the original team although a game is on record from 1850.

Redditch School defeated King Edwards School, Bromsgrove, by five wickets, but the sport was only played now and again.

Men left the cricket field and went to work in factories by the age of 19 or 20 to support their wives. This led to the game being played by mainly professional people like shopkeepers.

The club actually took on an All England XI in 1863, attracting 1500 to the match, which was drawn.

The game was played at the Windsor ground, now Enfield Industrial Estate.

The club moved to its present site in 1896.

A friendly team ran from 1900 on Saturdays and Wednesdays, along with a league team which held the Championship Cup when the Redditch and District League disbanded.

St Huins, WG Thomas, RW Michie and Albert Griffin were all instrumental in running the club.
